Brushing and filing: your mission? Optimum residue removal!

Brushes and files tackle rust, varnish, paint residue and stubborn deposits of dirt. Our product range will let you add the finishing touch to many different areas of metal and stone work.

What kind of jobs are wire brushes used for?

Wire brushes with metal bristles made of different alloys are intended for hardwearing objects – in pipes, on metal components, on screw threads or files.

They clean surfaces and tools, remove stubborn dirt deposits or remove coatings. You can use a steel wire brush to remove carbonised deposits from electrodes, for example, or restore a metal object to its original splendour.

Which wire brush is used for which material when welding?

When processing weld seams, keep in mind that the material that the bristles are made of should be suitable or the material being welded. Stainless steel works well on stainless steel, and softer bristles are best used for softer metals. This ensures that the workpiece is not contaminated by foreign particles. This applies to many areas of metalworking. Wire brushes made of brass would, in addition to the risk of contamination, be too soft to work stainless steel effectively anyway.

What types of rasps and files are available?

One of the most important distinguishing features of milling tools such as rasps and files is the cross-section of the blade. This shape is also what gives models such as triangular files, a thread file or round files their names.

You should also keep hewn and milled files in mind. Files with a hewn cut remove relatively little material, while milled files often remove material much in the same way as a saw.

Professionals use the number of cuts and the cut number to determine how fine or coarse the file will be. The higher the two values, the more precise and finer the material removal will be.

You’ll need a thread file as a precision tool to rework internal and external threads. It has the same cross-section as an ISO thread and the rows of teeth correspond to the thread pitch. Deburrers are another special type of hand tool that make it easy to rework cut surfaces and edges.

When working on wood or soft stone, the rasp takes centre stage. It enables a high degree of material removal. This leaves a coarse and fibrous surface on which a file can then be used.
